Course Description

Beauty of Belief is a free online course designed for the everyday Catholic seeking to encounter more fully the radiating beauty of the Catholic Faith. This course will take participants on a journey through six rich theological themes. This course is not intended to be academically strenuous but to provide a shallow-entry point for those who have busy lives and need flexibility.

This course is designed for personal enrichment and does not count towards any academic credit at Sacred Heart Major Seminary or for any certification in the Archdiocese of Detroit.

  • Introductory Module – available starting February 20

  • Week 1: March 11- 17 - Beauty of Scripture - Dr. Mary Healy

  • Week 2: March 18-24- Beauty of the Church - Dr. Robert Fastiggi

  • Week 3: March 25-31- Beauty of Truth - Dr. Ralph Martin

  • Week 4: April 1-7-Beauty of Virtue - Dr. Janet Smith

  • Week 5: April 8-14-Beauty of Spirituality - Dr. Patricia Cooney-Hathaway

  • Week 6: April 15-21-Beauty of Hope - Fr. Pieter VanRooyen


Weekly Activities:

The following learning activities are available to students each week. There are not specific requirements. Those who complete all the videos and self-tests will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course.

The time commitment is flexible for this course. Weekly lectures are generally around 20-25 minutes long. Participants who are interested in completing all recommended readings and course tasks can expect to spend around 2-3 hours/week on the course. However, levels of participation and engagement are up to the discretion of the individual.

  • Weekly lectures featuring distinguished faculty members from Sacred Heart Major Seminary

  • Weekly recommended readings and links to additional learning resources

  • Weekly self-test to see what you’ve learned

  • Open online discussion for participants to share with each other what they are learning and encourage each other
